There are around 10,000 babies and children baptised or christened (it’s the same thing) in the Church of England every month. We also welcome adults who want to be baptised. Being baptised marks the start (or the continuation) of a lifelong journey of faith as part of the local and worldwide Christian family and we will do all we can to support you in this.
So we are delighted that in looking at this page, you are perhaps seeking baptism (or christening!) for your child or for yourself at St Matthew’s. Baptism is a welcome into God’s family and so we look forward to welcoming you to our church. We think it is important that you have time to get to know us a little before you make the commitment which a Christening entails. So if you are interested in finding out more about baptism why don’t you come along to St Matthew’s and introduce yourselves. You may find the 11o’clock service is more informal but people will be pleased to see you for our 9.15am service too and this may work better with nap times!
Since everyone is entitled to be baptised in their parish church it may just be worth checking that you are in our parish. If you are not, this doesn’t mean it can’t still happen but we will need to talk about it. Find out which Parish you live in at achurchnearyou
If you want to find our more about Christenings do take a look at the special Church of England website – there’s a mass of information and answers to the questions you may have. But there’s no substitute for coming along and seeing for yourself so hope to meet you soon. . . .
