Children’s Groups

As part of our regular Sunday 11 o’clock service, our children’s groups aim to provide a welcoming, safe and fun environment in which all children are nurtured in their Christian faith and enjoy making friends.  From baptism we believe that children are full members of the church and so we are committed to ensuring that children are always included as part of the church of today.

Crèche is a supervised group for children until their third birthday (and a parent or carer) with a story, prayer time and free play.   You are also very welcome to remain in the church with your little ones, if you would prefer.  The service can be heard from the Creche Room – children permitting!

Scramblers: age 3 to 5 (until the end of Reception year)  is a structured group session, following a regular weekly format to allow younger children to feel comfortable with the session and provide maximum learning and enjoyment.  Parents leave their children in the group so that they can then re-join the service.

Climbers: age 5-7  (Year 1 – 2) The  teaching is based on Bible stories, utilising a variety of media including action songs; story-telling; role play; craft activities; games and question and answer sessions. We embrace the church calendar highlighting and preparing for key milestones and celebrations in the church year, such as Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, Pentecost and Harvest.  We also celebrate birthdays in our groups.

Explorers: age 7-11 (Year 3 – 6) The format is similar to Climbers and indeed the two groups sometimes join together to enjoy larger craft activities.

Pathfinders: age 11+ caters for our growing children and young people – asking challenging questions and seeking to apply faith to their lives.

The groups are supervised and run by volunteers all of whom are checked through Safeguarding Procedures.  All but the Crèche group  follow the Scripture Union Light series.
