Heritage Open Days coming very soon . . . .

And if you can’t make it to our Fun Day this Saturday, what about coming to our Heritage Open Days Thurs 13 – Sun 16, lots to see, learn, do and refreshments too!   Come and visit the fascinating new Exhibition based around our WWI War Memorial, have a go at playing our new bell frame, make some bunting and explore the heritage of our beautiful building.

 

 

Having a cool time . . .

Do remember that we are holding Open Church every weekday across the summer.  So if you fancy coming in for a chat and a cup of coffee, a quiet place to sit and think or a change of scene for the children do come along between 10 and 1.

 

A joyful milestone . . .

 

On Sunday 15th July we were delighted to admit 10 children to receiving Holy Communion for the first time and to baptise Myles and Philip as well.  We were joined by the congregation of St George’s who were celebrating with the four children who regularly worship there.  The children took an active part throughout the service and had been prepared in a series of classes beforehand.

We look forward to baptising Luke and Thomas in our August Communion service.

 

THiS Team welcomes Revs David Nyirongo and Carolyn Lucas

It is with great delight and thanks to God that THiS Team welcomes both Rev David Nyirongo as Team Vicar at St George’s and Rev Carolyn Lucas as Minister Across the Team.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Appropriately, David was licensed at St George’s on St George’s Day by our Archdeacon the Ven John Kiddle.

Rev Carolyn Lucas will be licensed and both will be welcomed by Bishop Richard at a special service of Pentecost Praise on Sunday 20th June at 6.30pm at St Matthew’s.  All Welcome!

 

 

Situations Vacant – are you ready for a role at St Matthew’s?

With the exciting plans which we have for our future there are a number of new roles which have been created and there may be one to suit you!

Each of them, in their different ways, will help to support the church and local community, use your skills (which may have got a bit rusty) and/or offer you new challenges and areas of interest.  The time you spend working can be flexible and ​you will have the support of a friendly team, training where necessary and a fulfilling sense of purpose.

There is one paid role – the Parish Administrator – and the rest are all voluntary.

The Parish Administrator’s role is for 10 hours a week and could be flexible round school holidays.  For a Job Description and Application Form please click on the links or email Rev Helen Hancock at teamrector@stmatthewskt6.org.  Deadline for applications is midday on Monday 19th March.

The other three voluntary roles are:

(1) helping to set up a ‘Friends of St Matthew’s Church’ group with both local residents, businesses and other supporters

(2) fundraising for St Matthew’s Tower and Spire Appeal which needs to raise ​a balance of ​​around £300,000 for urgent repairs

(3) becoming the Heritage Activities Co-ordinator for activities which will flow from our Heritage Lottery Fund  grant. This will involve engaging a wide cross-section of the community with the church’s history and heritage (architecture, bells, stained glass, war memorial etc.) and helping organise training for volunteers.
